Emily Hoge
Emily Hoge is an assistant professor of Soviet history at Clemson University. She received her Ph.D. in Late Modern European History from the University of California, Berkeley in August 2023. Her work focuses on the political economy of violence in Russia and Eastern Europe. Her forthcoming manuscript is tentatively titled Combat Brotherhood: Disabled Soviet-Afghan War Veterans and the Mafia Welfare State in 1990s Russia. It explores the lives of disabled veterans of the Soviet-Afghan War in Russia who used organized crime to replace the functions of the state after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
