Alexander Cooley

Claire Tow Professor of Political Science, Barnard College

Alexander Cooley was the Director of Columbia University’s Harriman Institute for the Study of Russia, Eurasia, and Eastern Europe from 2015 to 2021. He writes widely about the countries of the former Soviet Union. He is the author of Dictators without Borders: Power and Money in Central Asia; Exit from Hegemony: The Unraveling of the American Global Order (co-authored with Daniel Nexon); and Dictating the Agenda; The Authoritarian Resurgence in World Politics (co-authored with Alexander Dukalskis).
